Albeit they were not the favorite side to get Matthijs de Ligt’s signature, now Juventus have found themselves in a very enviable position given the fact that the Dutch young start has reportedly chosen them as their new team ahead of next season. Matthijs was followed by every major club across Europe and now it looks like he finally made up his mind and picked the current Serie A champions to be his new home.
As stated before, de Ligt gained a lot of attention thanks to his performances with Dutch giants Ajax this season, taking the team to play the Champions League semi-finals for the first time in years and help them win a domestic double. Now, with half the squad making their way out, Ajax look set to let de Ligt go as well. The 19-year-old has stated that he wouldn't make a decision until after the UEFA Nations League tournament in Portugal, but now that all of that is over, things look clear for him.
While fans are anxiously waiting to know Matthijs’ next destination, Sky Sports Italy reports that de Ligt will join Serie A champions Juventus before the start of the season. They added that the last step to make the announcement at this stage is an agreement over personal terms in Turin, but Juventus and Ajax have agreed on a £62 million transfer fee.
De Ligt appeared to be favoring a move to Spanish side Barcelona to join former Ajax teammate Frenkie de Jong, but now he’s believed to have rejected offers from both Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. Catalan journalist Oriol Domènech has claimed on social media that an announcement about de Ligt's decision could be made by Tuesday 25 June.
The talented center-back will be joining Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey as the two signings the Old Lady has made so far this summer and will be the first one under newly-appointed Maurizio Sarri.
