After several months and speculation surrounding his future, Mauro Icardi has finally found a new team, one that nobody expected to get his signature. Paris Saint-Germain showed their surprising interest in Icardi and decided to go for it as a late move.
Luckily for Les Parisiens, things well as expected, and they got themselves one of the best strikers in Europe at this very moment. Icardi, 26, joined Internazionale from Sampdoria in 2013, scoring goals like they were nothing.
He was linked with a move to Juventus or Napoli this summer, but those rumors vanished, leaving the Argentine striker hopeless to find a new team. However, given the fact that Juventus weren't to let Paulo Dybala go to Paris this summer, Les Parisiens placed their attention on a different player, landing Icardi on a loan deal from the Nerazzurri.
He'll play the remainder of the season with PSG, and the French club will have a €70 million option to buy him at the end of the deal.
Inter confirmed Icardi's departure on their official website. Their statement reads:
"FC Internazionale Milano announces the transfer of Mauro Icardi to Paris Saint-Germain. The Argentine striker moves to the French club on a temporary annual basis with the right to transform the transfer ultimately.
"At the same time, the player reached an agreement with FC Internazionale Milano for the extension of the contract until 30 June 2022."
After having an overwhelming season at the Giuseppe Meazza, Icardi is set to take on new challenges, and PSG may well be the best option for him.
