After months of speculation surrounding Philippe Coutinho and the possibility of the Brazilian forward heading to Paris as part of a potential swap deal for Neymar, Barcelona have agreed to send Coutinho to German giants Bayern Munich on loan.

Barcelona’s director Guillermo Amor confirmed the deal.

Coutinho was left out of the matchday squad for Barca's La Liga opener against Athletic Bilbao at San Mames, increasing speculation that he was on his way out of Catalonia. It was previously reported that the two clubs were engaged in talks over a loan move involving Coutinho, and now everything is official.

“We can confirm that there is an agreement in principle with Bayern Munich for the loan of Coutinho,” Amor told RAC1 before the game.

Ever since he made his way to the Camp Nou in January 2018 from Liverpool, Coutinho was never able to have good performances with the Blaugrana, struggling to find a spot in Ernesto Valverde’s starting XI.

Earlier this summer, the 27-year-old was linked with a comeback to the Premier League, offered to both Arsenal and Tottenham, but he didn’t look very interested in returning to England, which caused negotiations to fall apart.

Barcelona also offered Coutinho to Paris Saint-Germain in a player-plus-cash deal to re-sign Neymar and now is unclear how the Catalans will continue the pursuit of their former forward with Coutinho heading to Bayern.
