Even though Chelsea were unable to defeat Liverpool for the UEFA Super Cup, the team sure looked way better than during their season opener vs. Manchester United last Sunday.
And the team's brightest spot was Christian Pulisic, who made a mess out of Liverpool's defense and showcased his abilities as Eden Hazard's successor at Stamford Bridge.
That's why Tony Cascarino, a former Chelsea legend, didn't hold back to laud the team's newest superstar, claiming he's got all it takes to lead the team to success:
“Christian Pulisic looks like he will be a very dangerous player for Chelsea. Jurgen Klopp had been interested in the young forward and you could tell he was wary of his threat as he changed his defense to counter him, selecting Joe Gomez at right-back instead of Trent Alexander-Arnold. Gomez is a better defender than his team-mate but it still wasn’t enough to stop the United States international at times.
I don’t remember a young Eden Hazard being as quick and direct and there’s no reason Pulisic can’t develop into a player of Hazard’s standing. Pulisic reminds me of Arjen Robben, you cannot stop him one-on-one because you don’t know which way he’s going to go and his pace is devastating. He will be a massive asset for Frank Lampard this season," Cascarino told The Times.
The USMNT superstar logged a beautiful assist to set up Olivier Giroud's goal vs. Liverpool and forced the Reds to change their entire scheme to try and contain him runs upfront.
Pulisic is just 20 years old and he was a former Liverpool target as well, so the sky seems to be the limit for him at this point of his career.
Also, with Chelsea set to serve a transfer ban that'll keep him from signing new players, he'll have to step up as the team's leader for this upcoming campaign if they want to go back to the UEFA Champions Leauge.
