Following yet another disappointing loss vs. Atletico de Madrid, FC Barcelona finally decided to part ways with Ernesto Valverde, a coach that had been in the spotlight from day one.

There were a lot of controversial decisions regarding his departure, like the team forcing him to coach in practice despite openly admitting to being in the middle of the search for a replacement.

Even Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta thinks the club did Valverde wrong for the way they treated him. However, the Spanish coach showed a lot of class by posting a statement in the club's official website to thank everybody for the opportunity he had:

“My time as FC Barcelona coach has come to an end. It has been an intense two-and-a-half years right from the start. In that time I have enjoyed some joyful moments celebrating victories and trophies but also others that have been tough and difficult. “However, above all, I would like to highlight my experience with the fans and the affection showed towards me during my time as coach. I would like to thank president Josep Maria Bartomeu and the board of directors for giving me the opportunity to coach the first team and their confidence during all this time.

I would also like to thank all the people I have worked with at the club for their support and how they treated me during the two-and-a-half seasons, especially those who work in and around the first team and with whom I have shared so many moments at the Ciutat Esportiva and during away trips. Of course, I would like to thank the players for all their efforts that have allowed us to claim four trophies together. From this day, I wish them all the luck in the world and to the new coach Quique Setien also. All the best to everyone. Visca Barca and Visca Catalonia," Valverde wrote.

After this, Lionel Messi took to Instagram to thank Valverde for his time with the club, wishing the best of lucks to the former Athletic Club manager.

“Thank you for everything, Mr. Surely you will be great wherever you go because, besides being a great professional, you are a great person. Good luck and a big hug,” the caption reads.

Barcelona appointed former midfielder Quique Setien as Valverde's replacement, yet another controversial decision that has caused a lot of mixed reactions between their supporters.

Setien clearly doesn't seem like a guy that's ready to embrace such a huge challenge just yet on his career, but hopefully, his departure will give the Catalans a breath of fresh air.
