Real Madrid were supposed to have a huge summer and, judging by all the players they signed early on, it looked like they were going to go through a major roster overhaul.
Los Blancos were linked with a move for Paul Pogba, Neymar Jr, Sadio Mane, Bruno Fernandes, and Christian Eriksen after already securing the signings of Eder Militao, Rodrygo, Ferland Mendy, Luka Jovic, and Eden Hazard.
However, Florentino Perez and the team weren't able to pull the trigger on any further deals, and Marco Asensio's injury forced them to hold on to Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez.
Notably, Real Madrid fans were clearly upset and frustrated about the team's lack of movement towards the closing of the transfer window, especially after they were all expecting a big name signing like Neymar or Pogba.
Hence, Florentino went on to clarify what went south with their signings during his latest press conference, where he also addressed other issues like Zidane's work:
"With Neymar, it was all the media. The press said a lot of things. (As for Pogba), when a club doesn't want to sell a player they ask for absurd sums of money", Perez told the media, as reported by The Mirror.
Neymar Jr was trying to force his way out of Parc des Princes and wanted to come back to Spain, but PSG were reluctant to take any of Real Madrid's or Barcelona's bids for the Brazilian.
Pogba, on the other hand, was also trying to complete a move back to Juventus or join Real Madrid as he felt his time at Old Trafford had come to an end, but the team refused to lessen their financial demands for him.
As for Real Madrid, the team hasn't gotten off to the best of starts after spending a lot of money in the summer, so Zidane better pulls off his magic once again if they don't want to end another season empty-handed.
