Despite having won three titles last season, Manchester City’s boss Pep Guardiola knows they need to make some signings this summer if they want to finally win their most desired trophy, the Champions League. Pep, alongside the team’s directive have already started to work on that and very good players have been linked with a move to Etihad Stadium.

Last season they won a domestic treble with Premier League and Carabao Cup crowns retained and the FA Cup added the wonderful campaign the Citizens had. Nevertheless, the biggest goal ahead of next season will be the continental competition, where Guardiola has been knocked out by fellow Premier League teams in the past two seasons.

They have one of the largest rosters in European football, but everything can be improved, including this team, who have already been linked with a number of proven performers.

Former City boss Stuart Pearce considers there are three key zones that need to be reinforced this summer and more having in consideration Vincent Kompany’s departure and the way the team played last season while some important players were out due to injuries.

He told Sky Sports News (as quoted by Manchester Evening News): “I think all teams need to strengthen no matter who they are.”

“Just to get a fresh face in the dressing room, Man City with Kompany leaving that leaves an issue at the center of defense, I think as well the holding midfield role as well as if they lose Fernandinho for any period of time, which they did last season, would cause them problems.

“And I always think upfront, you can always strengthen with a striker.”

Manchester is not expected to spend big money this summer, but they’re still planning to disburse some cash in order to get the proper pieces before the start of next season. They have been one of the potential suitors for Leicester City’s defender Harry Maguire as well as Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The Spaniard boss has also shown a certain interest in joining the race for Dutch wonderkid Matthijs de Ligt, probably the most in-demand player this summer transfer window.

In the midfield, the Citizens are rumored to have Atletico Madrid star Rodri as their top target. They won’t have plenty of incorporations this offseason, but if they pull off at least two of the aforementioned, City will boost their ranks considerably, especially on defense.
