Lionel Messi put on a show against Valladolid on Tuesday night, enchanting everybody once again with his performances while also breaking and setting new records. Messi’s masterclass against the White and Violets meant the 100th time he earned a 10/10 rating.
That is according to WhoScored, a football statistics website that has been collecting data since the 2009/10 season, a period in which Messi has received a century of 10/10 scores. This season didn’t start the best way for Messi due to injuries, but now it looks like the Argentinian star has recovered his best form.
It all started against Sevilla when Messi became the first La Liga player to be given a ten this season. He then added another one to his collection in the 5-1 humbling of Real Valladolid last night. He had a terrific night that included his 50th career free-kick in the first half, as well as two sublime assists for Luis Suarez and Arturo Vidal.
Besides, he’s been awarded two 10/10 ratings by L'Equipe, a huge feat for any footballer. The French newspaper is known for being extremely harsh markers, only giving eleven 10/10's since 1988. Yet, they had no choice but to put the highest mark on Messi for his two sensational displays.
The first one came in 2010 when he absolutely destroyed Arsenal in the Champions League, scoring four goals, leading Arsene Wenger to describe him as "a PlayStation player".
Two years after that, he had an even better game against Bayer Leverkusen in the same competition, netting five goals against the German side in a 7-1 smash.
Messi has had an incredible career and he only keeps adding more and more accolades to his big resume.
