Thanks to Jurgen Klopp's tutelage, Liverpool have made it to back-to-back UEFA Champions League finals, losing vs. Real Madrid and then bouncing back to beat Tottenham Hotspur.
Therefore, the Reds have become a bit of a driving force in the European tournament, even though they've yet to replicate that success in the English Premier League.
Hence, Fabinho, one of the main responsible for their recent surge, address the team's official website to talk ahead of the upcoming UCL draw and how the team feels about this campaign:
"The Champions League is a special competition and we're the reigning champions. There's always going to be a lot of expectation about who we're going to come up against. We're relaxed about it. We're fully aware that when we return from this international break there will be a more intense fixture schedule with midweek games, but that's good – we like it", Fabinho told Liverpool's website.
Moreover, the defensive midfielder acknowledged that the team is well aware of the fact that all other teams are out to get them, and that they'll have a target on their backs for most of the season as the defending champions:
"As we're the reigning champions, all the other teams are going to focus much more on us, they'll know more about our team. We're excited about this season's competition. We know how strong the team is and, as always, we have to work hard and with confidence," Fabinho concluded.
Liverpool have completely turned the page following some dark years prior to Klopp's arrival, and they've now become one of the strongest teams in the Old Continent.
Led by their rock-and-roll offense and their ability to keep pressuring for 90 minutes, Klopp's guys are poised for another breakout year and, why not? perhaps another trip to the UCL Final.
