The Paul Pogba saga has been one of the most discussed topics in Europe this summer, with the Frenchman linked with a move to Real Madrid and Juventus since the summer transfer window opened. But, at this very moment, he remains with his current side, Manchester United.

The Red Devils are reluctant to let the World Cup winner go this summer, even more, if the team trying to lure the Frenchman is Real Madrid. Now, with the latest reports on this matter, things don’t look that promising for Madrid, as Manchester United ‘sources’ have suggested that Los Blancos used underhand tactics to affect a potential Pogba transfer.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United sources claimed this summer that Real Madrid may have been urging Tottenham to do a deal with the Red Devils over Christian Eriksen so that they could get a better transfer situation regarding Paul Pogba.

The report also notes that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer actually ended up holding talks with Eriksen over a potential move to Manchester. Nevertheless, Eriksen wanted to go play overseas and decided not to join United.

The Manchester Evening News stated that the Spurs actively encouraged Manchester to strike a deal for Eriksen and Toby Alderweireld this summer, leading people inside the club to suspect that there was something or someone behind Tottenham’s eagerness to offload the Danish player at Old Trafford.

It’s well known that Zinedine Zidane has made Pogba a top target this summer, and after all the attempts they made this offseason to sign the French midfielder, one could say they started to look for alternatives to make things easier for themselves.

Yet, with Tottenham close to see Eriksen run down his contract and leave for nothing next season, it’s also understandable that the club was so insistent about selling him to Man. Utd. this summer. With the transfer window now closed for Premier League sides, United won’t let Pogba go at least until next January when they can find a proper replacement for the Frenchman.
