Manchester United To Try And Sign Christian Eriksen Amid Real Madrid Interest

Christian Eriksen

Manchester United are going to be one of the most aggressive teams in the summer on their pursuit for top-tier talents, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is well aware of the fact that the team needs more talent if they intend to compete with Manchester City and Liverpool for the English Premier League.

That's why they might as well turn to one of their rivals to try and strengthen their ranks, as they're reportedly quite interested in making a run at Tottenham's Christian Eriksen, according to the Evening Star.

Eriksen had been a longtime Manchester United target, as Louis van Gaal was allegedly trying to get him to Old Trafford during his time in charge of the Red Devils. This time, however, they're set to fight Real Madrid for his services.

Both teams are well aware of the fact that Tottenham is unwilling to engage in talks for the Denmark international, but the playmaker's refusal to sign a new deal with the Spurs may force Daniel Levy's hand to listen to some offers for him.

The midfielder still has a year left on his contract and is demanding the team to double his current £70,000 weekly wage in order to further extend his stay with Mauricio Pochettino's side.

The 27-year-old has excelled for the Spurs and is one of the most prolific creators in the world. He's a master at set-pieces and can also finish from long range with both feet, and he's exactly the kind of creative player that could finally take both Madrid or United out of their offensive slump.

In order to pursue him, both teams are likely to enter a huge bidding war, and Tottenham is not likely to accept less than £60m for his services after signing for little more than £10m in 2013.

However, it's kind of unlikely that Spurs are eager to send one of his best players to a direct rival, so it looks like Florentino Perez has the upper hand on a potential move for Eriksen right now.
