Even though they managed to keep him away from Manchester United a couple of weeks ago, it looks like Christian Eriksen's departure is still imminent.
The Danish playmaker wasn't a part of Mauricio Pochettino's starting XI during Tottenham's home loss vs. Newcastle United, so the media started to speculate on whether he had played his last game for the yids from White Hart Lane.
When asked about his situation, coach Pochettino was clearly upset about the loss and hinted the game may have been Eriksen's farewell:
"I don't know (If Eriksen played his last game with Tottenham). Why do you ask me? Do you know something? It is so difficult the situation. I can only pick 11. I understand the question. If we win 3-0 or 4-0 then these questions aren't asked," Pochettino told the media following the loss vs. Newcastle.
The Spurs were supposed to battle for the top spot of the English Premier League throughout the whole season, but they've struggled to live up to the expectations thus far this season.
And after being bailed out by the VAR vs. Manchester City last week, it looks like they could've had a major chance at tying the game, but were denied this time. Pochettino, however, didn't complain about how the VAR was used during the game.
"I am going to have the chance now to see it, but I trust and am fully committed to the VAR. When it's for us I'm more than happy and when it's not for us I will respect it, but nothing to complain about," Pochettino added.
As for Eriksen, he's still one of Real Madrid's top targets for the summer. Also, judging for what has happened with Neymar and Paul Pogba recently, it looks like he may be Zidane's only realistic option, so we'll have to wait and see how this situation pans out.
