Mauro Icardi has been rumored to be leaving Internazionale Milan this summer and a variety of teams have inscribed their names on the list of potential suitors for the Argentine striker. Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid were rumored to be candidates to get the player’s signature this summer, but back in Italy, there are two big clubs who will also try to take him out of Milan.
Juventus were initially believed to be a very good destination for Icardi, but in recent days Napoli joined the club of squads interested in Mauro’s services.
Some reports suggested that the club was willing to make a swap deal with Inter which would send Lorenzo Insigne to the Giuseppe Meazza in exchange for Icardi, but now their president, the infamous Aurelio De Laurentiis has shut down those rumors, stating that Insigne is untouchable.
De Laurentiis made sure to dismiss speculation that Insigne could be used as a makeweight in any potential deal, pointing out how important he is at the San Paolo.
“Ancelotti said he wouldn’t exchange Icardi with Lorenzo Insigne and he’s right," De Laurentiis said, as quoted by Corriere dello Sport.
"Icardi may well always want to join Juventus, but I prefer Lorenzo to him too, because he’s the one we need, while we already have Arkadiusz Milik and Dries Mertens upfront."
He then went on to comment about another big story for the Parthenoppeans this summer, regarding Real Madrid outcast James Rodriguez, saying that the Colombian star is eager to go play in the Serie A.
"Carlo likes it very much and we are waiting for a more reasonable request. The rock is represented by Real Madrid, which has high claims in our opinion. But James wants Naples."
Seeing how good Icardi has fared during his stint with Inter, is not a surprise that Napoli want to sign him. They have big plans ahead of the upcoming season and if they’re able to land both Icardi and Rodriguez, Carlo Ancelotti will have a very competitive team to make noise both in Italy and overseas.
