Even though it looked like a come back to the Italian Serie A would be the best for Alexis Sanchez, the Chilean striker has struggled to live up to the expectations at Internazionale.
That being said, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed that Sanchez would go back to Manchester United at the end of the season, as Inter has no interest in extending his loan or buy him.
The Norweigan boss backed Alexis and claimed he's going to surprise a lot of people once he comes back, before addressing the team's needs for this transfer window:
"Alexis will come back in the summer and will prove youse all wrong," Solskjaer told the media, as quoted by Goal.
The Red Devils are in desperate need of reinforcements as they look to clinch a UEFA Champions League berth. However, Solskjaer knows that signing players in the winter transfer window is extremely difficult because no team wants to lose their stars mid-season:
"We’ve got players here that we’re working hard to get back as well and if there is something out there then the club is pursuing that and it’s difficult," he said. I can’t remember how many good ones we’ve brought in and were good deals in January. Henrik [Larsson] was good, Nemanja [Vidic] and Patrice [Evra]... it’s hard, very hard, the clubs don’t want to lose their best players," he concluded.
United are set to face Manchester City for the second leg of the Carabao Cup semifinal after losing the first leg 1-3 at Old Trafford.
Also, they've been mightily struggling to get anything going in the English Premier League, so they're unlikely to be an attractive destination for top-tier players next summer as well.
Thus, perhaps Alexis Sanchez will have less competition and with the last chance to prove his worth, maybe he'll indeed surprise a lot of people.
