Paris Saint-Germain Confirm Summer Exit For Team Star

After a single season playing with French giants Paris Saint-Germain, Gianluigi Buffon has decided to part ways with the team when his contract expires at the end of this month. Buffon, 41, joined on a free transfer last July, making 25 appearances in all competitions for the club as they won the Ligue 1 title, finished as runners-up in the French Cup, and were knocked out of Champions League, the team’s biggest goal, in the round of 16 in front of Manchester United.

Gigi landed in Parc des Princes as a nine-time Serie A winner with Juventus, making 656 appearances in a 17-year tenure in Turin.

"I leave happy to have enjoyed this experience which has undoubtedly helped me to grow," Buffon said on a Instagram post. "Today my adventure outside Italy comes to an end.

"Ernest Hemingway wrote that there are only two places in the world where people can live happily: at home and in Paris. Today onwards, this will also apply to me: Paris, in some way, will always remain my home... Allez Paris!"

Something Buffon and PSG had in common was their frustrations for not being able to win the Champions League; Gigi thought this year was the perfect time for him to earn the title as he and his new team were keen to take it all and yet they ended up being knocked out in the last-16 round against Manchester United in one of the worst collapse this team had in recent years.

"I will never forget the pride that everyone at Paris St-Germain, both the club and the fans, felt when they saw Gianluigi Buffon wearing our jersey," said PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi."During his time at PSG he brought his phenomenal experience and his sense of professionalism not only to his team-mates but also to all areas of the club. We will miss his warm and open personality here at the club."

It’s unknown what Gigi is going to do from now on with his career; perhaps he will take his talents to a different continent or will continue with his quest to win the Champions League for at least one more season. Either way, whatever he decides to do, we will find out in the next weeks.
