Zinedine Zidane Explains Why Real Madrid Completed Summer Deals Early

With just three weeks into the summer transfer window, Real Madrid have completed almost every signing they wanted to make before the transfer market was opened and now everything points out they are only one signing away from completing their summer rebuild after the catastrophic season they just had.

It’s not very common, and especially for this team, to see them making early signings, but they have acted differently this summer, securing the landings of Luka Jovic, Eden Hazard, and Ferland Mendy, who joined Eder Militao, signed during the season, and Rodrygo Goes, who was purchased last year and will be making his way to Madrid this one.

Discussing why the team had secured these transfers in the early days of the market, Madrid’s boss Zinedine Zidane explained in an interview with the executive chairman of the International Champions Cup, published by Marca, that having his signings available for pre-season were the club’s original plans.

"We are going to have all types of players, from the new signings to the players that are already on the team to the young players who can support and add a lot to a team in pre-season,” the Frenchman said.

"(To have our signings available for the entire pre-season) is our plan and what we want. That is why we already bought players, so that they are ready with us and prepared.

"As you know, the pre-season for a player is very important. The important thing is that they are with us from day one.

"They will have played games with their national teams, but will have around one month of vacation and they will be with us."

Even though they have spent around €300 million in their summer rebuild, Los Blancos are still linked with some of the best players in the continent, albeit they aren’t expected to buy more than one player for the rest of the offseason. With players like Christian Eriksen and Paul Pogba on their radar, Madrid are keen to go back to the biggest stages and they started their journey the best way.
