James Rodriguez' never-ending story may finally come to an end in the summer, as the Colombian is set to make a definitive departure away from Real Madrid once his loan spell at Bayern Munchen expires.
The playmaker wanted to make a comeback with Los Blancos during Julen Lopetegui's infamous tenure in charge of the team, but, now that Zinedine Zidane is back at Santiago Bernabeu, it looks like the 27-year-old could find it really difficult to get any playing time at all with Los Blancos.
Luckily for him, there have been plenty of suitors for his services so far, with Chelsea and Manchester United reportedly intrigued by the possibility of signing him. However, Italian giants Napoli could also join the race for the midfielder, as reported by Spanish outlet AS.
Stefano Agresti of Calciomercato told Radio CRC that he believes Carlo Ancelotti would be thrilled with the opportunity of a reunion with the Colombian after already having him at Real Madrid and Bayern Munchen, especially with Napoli desperate to strengthen its ranks to try and compete with Juventus for the Italian Serie A next season:
"It wouldn't be a surprise to see Napoli land a top-tier striker of the likes of Mauro Icardi (Inter), or Diego Costa (Atletico Madrid), a couple of guys that could be a great complement for (Arkadiusz) Milik (...) Napoli is seen as one of the best clubs in Europe and they could get players that could be impossible for other clubs, like James (Rodriguez), who's not going to stay at Bayern Munchen," Agresti claimed.
James is incredibly talented but injuries and inconsistent playing time have really taken a toll on his career as of late. Still, he's got what it takes to make a huge impact for any team in the world, and Ancelotti already knows how to make the most of his talents.
