Succeeding at Real Madrid is not an easy thing to accomplish, especially if you make it to Santiago Bernabeu with a lot of expectations and pressure over your shoulders.
That's exactly what's happening with Eden Hazard, who won't be able to make his official debut with the team for at least an extra couple of weeks after suffering an injury.
Hazard was signed to finally fill the void Cristiano Ronaldo left when he joined Juventus a year ago. But, according to former Real Madrid's legend Predrag Mijatovic, people shouldn't put the bar so high for the Belgian striker:
"Hazard is a very good player, for sure. He is one of the best players in Europe. But, in my opinion, we can’t expect him to do what Cristiano Ronaldo did. In my opinion, it's impossible - there is no player who can play like Ronaldo. The pressure at Madrid is different from the pressure at Chelsea and you need some time to handle that," Mijatovic told Goal.
Moreover, while Mijatovic praised Hazard's talents, he looked quite confident on the team's ability to compete even without their marquee signing of the summer:
"It’s still a big team, with big players. The new players who came in, they have to adapt - that's normal at such a big club. This season probably won't be easy - it’s never easy at Madrid with the pressure. But I’m very optimistic that they'll compete for titles, this won't change," he concluded.
Real Madrid's La Liga campaign didn't get off to the best of starts at home, after drawing 1-1 vs. Real Valladolid and missing Hazard and James Rodriguez to injury.
Hazard will be asked to step up right away and we all know Los Blancos' supporters aren't known for their patience with their Galacticos. Still, asking him to replicate what Cristiano did with the team after 450 goals and 4 UEFA Champions League seems a bit excessive.
