Rivaldo Claims Neymar ‘Should Say Sorry’ To Barcelona Fans If He Wants to Return

Neymar Jr has been linked to a move to Barcelona for several weeks now, and it's no surprise when you see everybody waiting for their turn to give their opinion on a potential return of the Brazilian to Catalonia, the place he left two years ago.

As it's well remembered, Neymar ended his spell in Catalonia in not a good way, leaving marks that last until today when some close to the club think he should have to do something extra if he wants to complete his comeback to the Camp Nou.

For instance, one of the biggest referents Barcelona had during the 90s and 2000s, and Neymar fellow countryman, Rivaldo, believes that the forward has to apologize to the Cules fans if he wants to return to the club this summer.

Neymar has been a recurrent topic during this summer transfer window, with several reports indicating he might be pushing for a move back to Catalonia two seasons after he became the most expensive football transfer when PSG paid €222 million to take him to the French capital.

However, Rivaldo has urged the former Santos player to admit that "he was wrong" to leave if he wants to gain the love of the fans again.

"It’s a difficult decision," Rivaldo told Goal. "It’s difficult because of the way Neymar left. I think a lot of the fans are angry with everything that happened, but football is how it is, football is good, and Neymar is a great player who has personality.

"So if he comes here, of course, there will be times when he is criticized by some fans, but in the games, the training sessions, Neymar will still be the same Neymar, and it could be something special for Barcelona.

"He should say sorry. Officially, yes. Say sorry, say he was wrong, say that this is his home, that he is going to be the difference.

"I think that all the fans...many will understand, they’ll see him on the pitch in the league, the Champions League, doing things well, and the fans will forgive him easily."

After seeing what Mats Hummels did this summer with his return to Borussia Dortmund from Bayern Munich, it wouldn’t be crazy to see Neymar doing the same with Barcelona. Nevertheless, things are a little bit different here, as Hummels’ signing was worth around €30 million, while a potential Neymar comeback would make Barcelona disburse over €200 million to Paris Saint-Germain.
