FC Barcelona is comfortably sitting at the top of La Liga, 10 points ahead of long-time rivals Real Madrid in what seems to be yet another domestic trophy for the Blaugrana.
Even so, with Munir’s departure, the team is quite shorthanded when it comes to strikers, and with 33-year-old Luis Suarez being their only choice right now, Ernesto Valverde is already looking to dig in the market to try and find a substitute for the Uruguayan.
Also, Ousmane Dembele’s constant antics and misbehaviors and Philippe Coutinho’s current form have everybody wondering if the Catalans aren’t about to break the market once again and bring more talent to Camp Nou.
Everybody knows a giant club like Barcelona is always active and aggressive in the market, but whom are they looking to sign right now? Who could be Lionel Messi’s newest teammate? Let’s walk you through it.
4. Fernando Llorente
With Athletic Bilbao also in the hunt to bring back the 33-year-old striker to his homeland, it looks like Ernesto Valverde would be more than willing to give the out-of-favour Tottenham striker a last chance to prove his worth, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Harry Kane’s injury may put any deal surrounding the Spaniard on hold, and he’d have a much bigger chance at playing time at his former club Bilbao, which is constantly trying to avoid relegation for the first time in its history, but turning down Barcelona is not something most players are willing to do.
Barcelona has had Willian Borges on sight for a couple of seasons now, and Sky Sports reports that they’ve renewed their interest in the 30-year-old Brazilian winger, who’s currently thriving for Maurizio Sarri’s side.
Sky also reports that the Blaugrana offered a deal that could send Malcolm to Stamford Bridge, but the proposal was shut down by the Blues. Willian is a versatile winger and a pace-setter is great at scoring from set-pieces and would be a prime replacement for either Coutinho or Dembele.
2. Olivier Giroud
Local outlet Sport reports that Valverde’s also keen to dress Olivier Giroud in red and blue stripes, should they strike on a deal to land Llorente, as his contract is about to expire at the end of the season and the team wouldn’t mind letting him walk away.
Sarri’s getting rid of Alvaro Morata and wants Gonzalo Higuain to be his go-to-guy inside the box, and the 32-year-old Frenchman would be more than willing to join fellow World Champions Samuel Umtiti and Ousmane Dembele at Camp Nou.
1. Cristhian Stuani
Cristhian Stuani has been under Barcelona’s radar for a couple of weeks now, and Luis Suarez could be a major factor in the signing of the Uruguayan, who’s currently La Liga’s third top scorer.
Stuani, Girona’s top gun, could join Barcelona for just 15 million, according to As. Also, local outlets report that the 32-year-old would be thrilled with the chance to play for such a legendary club before going back to Uruguay to retire.
