Manchester United are looking to make a major overhaul this summer transfer window and every sector of the pitch is going to suffer big changes if the rumors surrounding the Red Devils happen to be the truth. United have been linked with several players in recent weeks, but some of them doesn’t look like a very plausible option for them.
For instance, in recent days reports from England suggested that Manchester United ruled out themselves of the race to sign Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt. Well, now they may have the perfect solution for that fake step in one of the most consistent Premier League defenders in recent years.
Man. Utd. have been heavily linked to Tottenham’s center-back Toby Alderweireld for some time now, but if they intend to make this move now, that could potentially happen against the wishes of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Toby’s £25 million release clause in his current contract becomes active this summer, something that would make him a very attractive target for the Red Devils.
However, other reports indicated that Solskjaer would prefer to give chances to Victor Lindelof, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, and Axel Tuanzebe to prove their worth in pre-season, as the priority of the team ahead of next season will be signing a new right-back.
The Sun claims that Solskjaer wants to keep his center-backs since he’s decided to coach them into form before bringing a new agent to the team. Still, the team 'refuses to rule out' an approach for Alderweireld and will start to test the waters of negotiation with Toby next week, even though the boss has made clear he doesn’t want to sign the Belgian international.
