Matthijs De Ligt To Make Manchester United Decision 'In Coming Days'

Ajax’s center-back Matthijs de Ligt has been on the radar of every major team in Europe for the last couple of months, with the Dutch defender set to depart from Ajax after impressive performances with the current Eredivisie champions.

Matthijs has been linked with Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester United, for instance, and even though Man. Utd. have reportedly ruled out themselves of the race to sign de Ligt, not everything is completely done on this matter. Although interest from Barcelona is still there, recent reports have indicated that United are still contending to sign the youngster.

According to The Telegraph, De Ligt will tell United "in the coming days" his decision on whether he’ll join them, even if they won’t play Champions League football next season. The team’s front office believes that the 19-year-old has already reached an agreement with Barcelona, but they won’t miss any opportunity to steal de Ligt from the Blaugrana.

There have rumors on what needs to be done for the Dutchman to land in Camp Nou once and for all and everything points out his wage demands are an issue for the Spanish side to finish a deal.

The Telegraph adds that plenty of people in the Netherlands believe that de Ligt should join United instead of Barcelona, as English football would help him more in his development at this stage of his career. Matthijs shares some similarities with Barcelona's Gerard Pique and not only for the way they play, but it could also be for the decisions they made in their careers.

Pique first played in Manchester from 2004 to 2008 before making a move to Barcelona where he became one of the best defenders of the world. Perhaps de Ligt might follow the Spaniard’s footsteps and join the Red Devils before taking his talents to Catalonia. He’s pretty young and he certainly will have time to play for any team he wants. As for now, he has insisted that no final decision will be made until after the end of the UEFA Nations League this summer.
