Since sacking Jose Mourinho, Manchester United is back at it’s winning self, going a perfect 5 for 5 under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's tutelage.
Whether the Baby-Faced Assassin will stay put at Old Trafford beyond this season is yet to be seen, but that doesn’t mean the Red Devils shouldn’t be already planning ahead for the future, regardless of who’s pulling the strings.
That being said, and with United keen to make a run at the Premier League title next season, the team is ready to move on from Mourinho’s boring defensive tactics and go full steam to enhance their offense.
But, who could actually join the Red Devils this summer? Who should they pursue? And most importantly, who could actually help them take down Liverpool and Manchester City? Let’s take a look at their top 5 transfer targets
5. Steven Bergwijn
The Red Devils have been reportedly scouting the 21-year old winger from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven, as Solskjaer is a fan of the kid’s game and would advise the team to make a 25 million bid to get him.
Bergwijn was also in Liverpool’s radar early on the season, but it seems like United is the frontrunner to acquire his services as of today, should he convince their scouts, according to Mirror.
4. David Brooks
David Brooks has drawn a lot of interest lately, as Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have been following his footsteps quite closely, even though he’s “entirely focused on Bournemouth right now”, as Bournemouth Echo reports.
Either way, should United be willing to pay the 40 million transfer fee for the Welsh winger, that could change in the blink of an eye. Brooks is just 21 years old and has been one of the most impressive youngsters in Premier League this season, netting 5 scores and a couple of assists.
3. Kalidou Koulibaly
Ever since the start of the season, Kalidou Koulibaly has been closely tied with a move to Old Trafford, but Carlo Ancelotti isn’t willing to negotiate a potential signing of the Senegalese center back, Sky Sports reports.
Either way, it’s clear that Koulibaly has already outgrown Napoli and he’s keen to take a step forward in his career, and he could finally fix the defensive woes that haunted Mourinho’s United prior to his sacking.
2. Douglas Costa
With Paul Pogba reportedly wanting to join Juventus again in the summer, Manchester United was intrigued about the possibility of swapping the Frenchman with out-of-favor winger Douglas Costa.
The Brazilian is a difference maker in the pitch but Cristiano Ronaldo’s presence has taken a toll on his overall impact. Nonetheless, should the team discuss any move regarding the Brazilian 27-year-old, it won’t happen until the summer, according to Calciomercato.
1. Philippe Coutinho
And last but not least, Manchester United could land want-away Philippe Coutinho from FC Barcelona, as the Brazilian stud has seen his playing time take a major downfall this season, and he’s far from being the determinant attacking midfielder he once was at Liverpool.
Coutinho could commit the ultimate sin by joining the Reds’ biggest rivals, and Manchester Evening News has reported that the Blaugranas have already told United their asking price for the 26-year-old, which is around 88 million.
