Transfer News: Barcelona ‘Asked’ Neymar To End Talks With Real Madrid

We’re less than a month away from the end of the summer transfer window in Europe, and so far we haven’t seen any progress or change in the Neymar saga. Of course, the only news is that Paris Saint-Germain have finally decided it’s time to part ways with the Brazilian winger, but his future remains uncertain for a lot of people.

Although Barcelona were the favorites to land the Brazilian star the whole summer, now Real Madrid appear as the front-runners to get Ney’s signature this offseason, surprising propers and strangers. Given the good relationships between Les Parisiens and Los Blancos, Neymar was offered to Real Madrid on more than one occasion, with the Spanish side now engaging talks with Ney over a potential return to Spain.

It looked like Barcelona were priced out of a move for the forward, and Real Madrid were ready to take advantage of that, but Spanish publication Sport claim that Barca have now asked Neymar to slow down and put an end to his possible switch to the Santiago Bernabeu. Besides, the Blaugrana want Neymar to state he will only join Barcelona, trying to accelerate things.

But, Barcelona’s boss Ernesto Valverde insists he's unsure on what will happen with the former Santos star ahead of the new season, claiming he doesn’t know what's being discussed at the top end of Barcelona's hierarchy.

"We'll see what happens. The classic response is that he plays for another team and that's that," Valverde said, quoted by Goal.

"All I know is that I'm the manager and I only think about the players I have. They are the ones I'll be using [against Napoli] tomorrow. As it stands, I don't know what is going to happen."

While some rumors claim that Barcelona could pay up to €300 million to relocate Neymar, the La Liga champions are thinking of including Philippe Coutinho as part of the deal. Yet, there is no suggestion that PSG will accept that offer.

Now, PSG's sporting director Leonardo has told French media (via ESPN Brazil) that transfer talks over Neymar's move to another club are "more advanced", although no agreement has been reached yet between the two sides.

It's unclear which one of the Spanish giants are getting closer to land the 27-year-old. Thomas Tuchel said that the player won't be part of the squad against Nimes due to a training injury, which has taken rumors to a different dimension.
