Just like they are expected to sign several players this offseason, Barcelona are also said to be selling plenty of them in order to make room for the new ones and get some cash in the process. That’s why they are reportedly keen to let several assets go this summer, especially the ones that didn’t display anything good during their times in the team.
For instance, Brazilian midfielder Philippe Coutinho has reportedly communicated his desire to abandon the club this summer, with the Blaugrana believed to be aiming to get a fee of around €90 million for his services.
Coutinho joined Barcelona from Liverpool in January 2018 for a fee that could rise to as much as £140 million, but after a good start turned out to be a huge failure, the former Internazionale player and his club are tired of each other at this point. This season he scored just 11 goals in 54 appearances for Barca in all competitions, only one more than he did in 22 for the Catalans in 2017/18.
This season didn’t end the best way for Barcelona, as they got eliminated from Champions League in a horrendous way against Liverpool in semis and lost the Copa del Rey final against Valencia.
Coutinho is ready to end his relationship with Barca and take his talents somewhere else according to a report from Cadena SER. The report suggests the Brazilian feels he was unable to adapt to the new environment in his 18 months at the club and has told Barca officials that he wants to move on according to sources within the hierarchy.
Now Coutinho will be playing the Copa America with Brazil this summer trying to show that he’s not done and he still has a lot to offer, intending to get himself a new team ahead of next season.
