Barcelona and Juventus have been linked with each other’s players over the summer, and some reports suggest they were close to actually complete a swap deal. However, that didn’t come to fruition in the end.

It was rumored that the Blaugrana and the Bianconeri were ready to exchange Ivan Rakitic and Emre Can, but that deal was never finalized.

Now, the two European giants were ready to complete another move, but things fell apart. According to Goal Italia, Rakitic was reportedly heading to Turin this summer in exchange for Federico Bernardeschi, but again things didn’t work out for the clubs.

The Croatian midfielder has found himself down the pecking order at Barcelona, playing only one La Liga game, as a substitute. This situation has created a lot of rumors, with some saying he was ready to join Paris Saint-Germain as a makeweight in a potential Neymar deal.

Bernardeschi hasn’t seen a lot of action, either, so far this season with the Old Lady. Now journalist Romeo Agresti reports that this deal will not be going ahead after the clubs failed to agree on a mutual valuation for the two players.

However, this might not be the last we hear of these two sides. They are reportedly working on yet another swap deal involving Daniele Rugani and Samuel Umititi, although it may be difficult to finalize it at this stage in the transfer window.

Things don’t look bad for Rakitic from now on, as Ernesto Valverde has stated he will need him to play his part as the season goes on.

"What do you want me to say? Last year he was playing and [Nelson] Semedo was on the bench,” Valverde said, as per The Mirror.

"The other day he played well and we stuck with the same team, with Sergi Roberto in midfield. We have a lot to choose from.

"It's a great question, but it could be about anyone. The market does not influence my decisions at all. If I think he'll come in handy for a game, I'll play him. I choose depending on the game."

With Giorgio Chiellini out due to an injury, and Matthijs de Ligt falling to display good things during his last match with Juve, landing Umtiti is a very good option for the Serie A champions.
