Romelu Lukaku is headed to Milan, where Internazionale wait to complete a big-money move for the Belgian striker. Lukaku was linked with Juventus as part of a swap deal with Paulo Dybala but failed negotiations between the Argentinian striker and Manchester United frustrated the whole operation.
After that, Inter decided to steal Lukaku from Manchester and made an improved offer for the striker, who has landed in Milan to undergo his medical ahead of his £73 million deadline-day move.
Now that Lukaku is on the verge of completing a move to Inter, Mario Mandzukic is seen as the perfect replacement for the former Chelsea, Everton star. Mandzukic was also included in the Lukaku-Dybala deal, but everything fell apart with all the issues regarding Dybala’s image rights and wage demands.
Sky Sports Italia now reports that United have reopened talks with the Croatian striker, hoping to make him Lukaku’s replacement at Old Trafford.
The 26-year-old Belgium international flew to Italy on Wednesday night. He was pictured with his agent, Federico Pastorello, on a private jet, writing on Instagram: 'Ready to take off .... direction Milano'.
This comes after Lukaku attempted to force his move out of Manchester this week; he decided to train for two days with his old club Anderlecht in Brussels without United’s permission, which made the Red Devils fine him with two weeks’ wages, approximately £400,000, for his actions.
Reports also suggest that Iñaki Williams of Athletic Bilbao is another option for Ole Gunnar Solskjer’s side, who would be willing to pay his £81 million release clause to sign the forward.
