This season hasn’t started as everybody wanted for Barcelona, and the club has already started the search for new players that can improve their level. Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez isn’t having a good moment right now, setting the alarms on in the Camp Nou.
That’s why the Spanish giants are believed to be looking for a new striker in the January transfer window, with five players currently under consideration as alternatives to Suarez. He’s battled some injuries over the last couple of weeks, having poor performances, with fans worrying about his form.
According to Calciomercato, Barca have identified several strikers, with some seen as short-term options, while others are seen as potential signings for the future. Given that they are believed to prefer signing a young striker, AC Milan’s standout Krzysztof Piatek and RB Leipzig's Timo Werner are seen as favorites to land in Barcelona.
They would be willing to pay €50 million for Piatek or €70 million for Werner, but they know bringing any of these players in January would be incredibly hard, as neither team wants to lose their star in the winter.
If those moves don’t come through, Barcelona would try to sign 32-year-old Girona striker Cristhian Stuani, who netted 19 La Liga goals last season. Getafe's Jaime Mata is also under consideration after the 30-year-old scored 14 goals last season, but Getafe are unlikely to let him leave in the middle of the season.
Last but not least, if the Catalans fail to land any of the four mentioned players, Juventus’ Mario Mandzukic would be the last option for the club. The Croatian striker has been linked with a move away from Turin, but so far nothing has materialized.
Right now Suarez is the only senior striker on Barcelona’s roster, so they need to sign somebody as soon as possible. Yet, if they go for a veteran striker, that would be temporary, as the biggest plan for the club is to sign a younger forward.
