After months of speculation and links with several strikers across Europe, it looks like Barcelona are finally ready to land a player who can put some pressure on Luis Suarez's shoulders. The Blaugrana need a new striker and their candidate seems to be one of Lionel Messi’s teammates in the Argentina national side that's currently playing the Copa America.
Barcelona are believed to have expressed their interest in signing Internazionale striker Lautaro Martinez, and they would be prepared to trigger his €112 million release clause. Martinez didn’t have the best season in Inter, but this summer he has made sure to remind everybody why the Italian club signed him in the first place.
With the South American country, Lautaro has created a great association with his potential Barcelona’s partner Lionel Messi, netting two goals in three matches to take his team to the Copa America semi-finals.
According to Radio La Red (via Marca), his performances this summer have hooked up Barcelona, and they prepare a bid for the youngster, but Inter are desperate to keep their star and will not negotiate. Antonio Conte has shown his desire to retain the 21-year-old on the roster as he plans to make him the starting striker once Mauro Icardi is sold.
That being said, Barcelona have reportedly told the Nerazzurri that they plan to activate Martinez's release clause to take the Argentine starlet to Camp Nou this summer.
In his first Serie A season, Martinez scored nine goals and provided two assists in 35 appearances, playing 17 of those as a starter as he found himself firmly behind Icardi in the pecking order. But now that Icardi is on his way out of the club, Martinez is seen by Conte as the number one option to replace the former Sampdoria striker at the Giuseppe Meazza.
Although Inter’s directive is keen to not let the former Racing Club player go, they would be in a very disadvantaged position if Barcelona decide to activate his release clause.
