Even though they added Antoine Griezmann this summer and are heavily linked with a move for Neymar Jr., Barcelona keep trying to add more firepower to their already dangerous squad. This time, however, they will pursue a player because their biggest figure, Lionel Messi, asked them to do so.

The La Liga champions are reportedly ready to go after Napoli star Lorenzo Insigne next winter transfer window. This comes after Lionel Messi requested that the club sign a new left-winger. The club counts with Ousmane Dembele and exciting wonderkid Ansu Fatu to choose from on their left-hand-side of their attack, but it doesn’t look like these two guys are very good options for Messi.

According to Don Balon, the Argentine superstar has requested the club to add more options at left-wing in the January transfer window, with Barca now set to go after Insigne as a result. They also note that Insigne sees with good eyes moving to Barcelona. He currently carries a price tag of at least €80 million. However, that wouldn’t be a problem, as it’s also stated that Insigne will push for a move to Catalonia.

Il Magnifico has become one of the best attackers in Italy in recent years. It’s shocking to see this guy still playing in Napoli and not in a bigger club, but his price tag can explain that quickly.

The 28-year-old has scored 38 and assisted 25 goals in Serie A since the start of the 2016/17 season, an impressive record for a player who generally plays on the wings.

Still, we have to wait and see if Dembele can recover his best form and become an important figure for Barcelona. If that happens, then Insigne and his services won’t be required at the Camp Nou.
