German giants Bayern Munich have been famous for not spending a lot of money in recent years, and this summer transfer window doesn’t look like things will be different for the Bavarians. Just like their fans in recent seasons, their own players are starting to get desperate about the club’s transfer policy and now one of their most important assets is decided to take action unless something changes.
According to his agent, Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is prepared to leave the German champions unless they sign better players this summer. Neuer has been one of the best players in Bayern in recent years, being considered a legend of the club right now, so his voice has to have some importance for the team’s hierarchy.
He has two years left on his deal in Allianz Arena, but the former Schalke 04 star looks unhappy with the quality of Bayern's squad at present, which led his agent Thomas Kroth to suggest to German outlet Suddeutsche Zeitung that he could be leaving the club unless they take a different path regarding their transfers.
"He wants to win Euro 2020 and he wants to win the Champions League again. Manuel is success-oriented," Kroth said.
"My impression is that the gap to the top four English top teams is already serious and the Munich squad is currently not yet as competitive or set up to tackle Manuel's goals seriously. When he realizes that Bayern are responding, then he will probably blossom again.
"He does not want to retire in 2021. Now he is in the phase in which he has to decide: how will things progress in the future?
"Signing a contract extension and ending his career at Bayern is, of course, the obvious option, but it's not the only one."
Bayern saw how their participation in the last Champions League finished at home when an highly-improved team of Liverpool took care of business and knocked them out of the competition in the last-16 round. Besides, if it weren’t for Borussia Dortmund’s mid-season collapse the last term, they wouldn’t have won the Bundesliga title, either.
They have already signed defenders Lucas Hernandez and Benjamin Pavard to strengthen the ranks, but having lost long-time servings Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery, they need to put more effort to make better signings this offseason, especially in the attack.
