After losing long-time wingers Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben at the end of the season, German giants Bayern Munich have focused all their attention to finding the best replacement for the two legends.
The current Bundesliga champions have been heavily linked to a move for Manchester City star Leroy Sane ever since the opening of the summer transfer window, but seeing the reluctance of the Citizens to sell the winger, the Bavarians have opted to find alternatives.
A recent report in Germany has claimed that the Muniquese are ready to pursue a move for Barcelona's Ousmane Dembele if their intends to sign Leroy Sane do not come to fruition. They have publicly spoken about their desire to get Sane this offseason, a couple of years after missing out the chance to sign him when he was part of Schalke.
Now Pep Guardiola and his team don’t seem willing to let the asset go; in fact, they are trying to get Sane to sign a new contract.
Knowing how unlikely would be a move for Sane this summer, Bild claim that Bayern have identified Dembele as their 'Plan B', and they will move for the Frenchman once they are certain they have absolutely no chance to land Sane.
Dembele’s history in Bundesliga is one of the main reasons why Bayern is eyeing a move for him. Before heading to Catalonia to join Barcelona, Ousmane spent one year with Borussia Dortmund, where he tallied 10 goals and 22 assists in 50 appearances, which made the Blaugrana disbursed £135.5 million to sign him.
Now the only obstacle between a move to Munich for the French winger is the potential asking fee Barcelona would ask for him. Club president Uli Hoeness has previously stated that a deal for Sane would not be made because of City's 'insane' demands, and he also told Bild that Bayern are eager to avoid spending more than €80 million (£71.6 million) in a single player.
Moreover, with Barcelona reportedly trying to sign both Antoine Griezmann and Neymar this summer, the club will have to rack up enough funds to afford the two signings, and that's when Dembele can help them. Bayern will have to step up and pay something near to what Barcelona will ask, as the only wingers they have within the ranks right now are Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman and Alphonso Davies.
Besides Sane and Dembele, the Bavarians have also been said to be following Chelsea’s starlet Callum Hodson-Odoi, but seeing the current Chelsea’s situation when it comes to transfers, they won’t be willing to let the youngster go that easy, leaving Bayern with more doubts than certain regarding their futures wingers.
