Bayern Munich are ready to go after Leroy Sane following a summer saga that ended up with the German winger staying in Manchester City due to an injury. Now the Bavarians are set to reach out Mane’s representatives in the coming weeks, after rejecting City's offer to take Gabriel Jesus instead.
The Bundesliga giants made public their pursuit of Sane during the offseason, but they couldn’t get anything done after the German suffered a serious knee injury during the Community Shield victory over Liverpool.
As per Christian Falk, Sane is now walking without crutches and Bayern are very excited that his recovery is going well. They are expected to reach out to the winger's agents to try and negotiate a transfer next winter transfer window.
Sport Bild added that City's asking price will have now dropped for Sane. They initially wanted €150 million for him, who will be out of contract in 2021, but the uncertainty about his fitness will likely force City to lower their fees.
However, the Citizens are keen to retain Leroy and have offered alternatives to the Muniquese, including striker Gabriel Jesus. The Sky Blues are reportedly willing to part ways with Jesus, but Bayern have turned down this offer, as their only target is Sane.
Munich are confident they can get Sane for a discounted price, given that he will be able to walk away for free in just 18 months. If he decides not to extend his contract with the Citizens, they won’t have more choice to sell him. Another factor that could favor Bayern are the UEFA's Financial Fair Play regulations; selling Sane will surely get City some money to balance the books and avoid any punishment.
The German giants were unable to land Sane because of City demands, with outgoing president Uli Hoeness claiming Manchester’s demands were ‘insane’. Perhaps they can change their minds and spend more than €80 million on a player, more knowing how eager they are to bring Sane in.
