It seems like Manchester United just can't catch a break. Right when things start going well for them, they miss on the chance to sign a star, a player gets hurt, or they start piling up poor outings again.
That's exactly what's happening with them this time as they made a huge bid for Sporting CP's Bruno Fernandes, one of their biggest desires since the start of last season.
Thing is, even though it has always looked like they're the frontrunners to sign the Portuguese superstar, now his agent Jorge Mendes has claimed that there's absolutely no guarantee that he'll join the Red Devils.
According to Mendes, there's been a lot of interest and traction about the 25-year-old, so whether Sporting will end up letting him go to Old Trafford or not is yet to be seen.
However, Mendes acknowledged that Fernandes is likely to leave the club rather sooner than later, although he can't tell if he's going to be sold right now or at the end of the season.
“I don’t know. If he doesn’t leave now, he will leave for sure in the summer because Sporting have already spoken to other clubs. Something will happen but I am not sure if now or at the end of the season," Mendes told the Association of Football Agents, according to Goal.
Manchester United is struggling to keep up with the rest of the pack in the race for the English Premier League, so it's unlikely they'll lure top-tier talents for next season unless they clinch a spot in the UEFA Champions League.
Fernandes' playmaking abilities would be perfectly suited for their needs, especially if Paul Pogba ends up leaving the club at the end of the season as expected. Unfortunately, it looks like they'll face an uphill battle for his services.
