Get ready, because once their transfer ban is ended, Chelsea are planning to sign big names to strengthen their ranks. The Blues are reportedly setting their sights on two targets as they could look to bring in a marquee signing if both Pedro and Willian leave Stamford Bridge next summer.
Both players are set to run down their contracts with the Londoners and so Frank Lampard would be losing two experienced options to play in the wide positions upfront. However, they have a big solution for that.
According to The Telegraph, in the event that both Pedro and Willian depart, with the latter said to be involved in a ‘bizarre’ contract standoff, then they would move for a high-profile signing to take over on the flanks.
This report mentions two specific names that will take Chelsea’s level to a different dimension. Wilfried Zaha and Jadon Sancho are said to be on Chelsea’s radar and so either could be seen as a key solution to add to the likes of Callum Hudson-Odoi and Christian Pulisic to give Lampard more quality up front.
Of course, any of these players won’t come cheap, with the Sun noting that Zaha was linked with a £70 million return to Man Utd earlier this month, while the Metro note that Sancho could cost around £100 million for Borussia Dortmund with United and Liverpool also interested in the youngster.
Chelsea will need to step up and pay big money for either player, while they await the outcome of their appeal against their transfer ban in the January transfer window to see if they can move faster than their rivals in the race for these assets.
