Even though Liverpool have stated they don’t plan to spend a lot of money this summer, the Reds are still linked with big-money moves, with some being more far-fetched than others. More recently, we learned that the current Champions League winners are reportedly interested in bringing back one player that left the club in the worst possible way back in 2018.
According to some reports, Liverpool are interested in re-signing none other than Philippe Coutinho. Yes, the guy who forced his exit of the club midway through the 2017/18 season to join up with Barcelona.
However, as it is well known, the Brazilian's time in Spain has been anything but great and now his future looks away from the Camp Nou, with a bunch of teams reportedly interested in landing the winger/attacking midfielder this summer.
Now we find out that one of those clubs is curiously Liverpool, a side that may not have the best feelings towards Philippe. Per Le10Sport (via Sport), the Reds are now 'ready to make a move' for their former star and Jurgen Klopp actually 'does not oppose' his arrival. Yes, this would be as crazy as it sounds, and the only justification for this Liverpool’s alleged interest in Coutinho is the fact that he’s not planning on signing with Manchester United and Chelsea.
The report notes that Barcelona are willing to part ways with the player, which is something every football fan is well aware of, but they fail to say that the Magician has stated that he is looking to stay put in Catalonia, at least for the next season.
He recently said in an interview while on international duty with Brazil (via Sport): "It really was not a good season and I did not perform as I expected.
"My will was always to offer the best of myself and I hope that what has happened to me will serve as an example, a lesson.
"I want more and my desire is to assume that responsibility and succeed in Barça and the national team. That is my intention. Many of the things that are coming out (in the press) are not true."
As long as a definitive deal is not agreed for Coutinho, rumors surrounding the Brazilian will continue to surface, including the unlikely ones that place him playing in Anfield once again. This is football and anything can happen, but right now neither Liverpool fans nor Coutinho may want the former Inter star making a return to Merseyside.
