Despite having one of the most well-rounded squads in football right now, Liverpool are trying to improve it, but this time they’ll have some competition. The Reds have reportedly entered the race to sign Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz, a player who’s earned a lot of attention in recent times.
Besides the Merseysiders, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich are already following the talented midfielder. Ruiz made it through Real Betis academy before Napoli purchased him last summer for €30 million. When the Parthenoppeans signed him, several high-profile Spanish sides, including Barca, passed up the opportunity to land him.
Before that, the Catalans had even more chances to sign the Spanish international, but they passed every time. That brings us to this day, where they are keen to land Fabian after the good things he showed with the Italian side and his national team.
According to Calciomercato, they are now set to face considerable competition from the current Champions League winners Liverpool for his signature, alongside the already-interested pair of Bayern and Real.
He’s attached to Napoli through 2023, so this move won't be easy for any team that goes for it. Besides, Carlo Ancelotti and Napoli’s president Aurelio de Laurentiis are keen to retain the 23-year-old and have already begun talks with the player about a new deal with the club.
Still, all these teams, except perhaps Bayern, have shown they can offload any amount of money to get their desired assets. Seeing how coveted Ruiz is right now, it looks like a battle is set to take place next summer transfer window.
Jurgen Klopp is keen to bolster his midfield, more knowing that James Milner is not getting any younger and Naby Keita has failed to display the things everybody expected from him.
Liverpool will have the chance to see Ruiz very closely when they travel to Naples in their Champions League opener.
