Liverpool are trying to make a huge push in both the English Premier Leauge and UEFA Champions League, but it doesn't mean they're already planning ahead to the future as well.
The Reds are keen and desperate to further strengthen their defense, as getting stops has been their lone Achilles heel during Jurgen Klopp's tenure.
Even though their defense has vastly improved upon Virgil van Dijk's and Allison Becker's arrival, the team lacks more depth at the center of the defense with injury-prone Joe Gomez, Dejan Lovren, and Joel Matip constantly sidelined with nagging pains.
That's why the team is bound to make a move for Borussia Monchengladbach's centre-back Matthias Ginter, a guy pretty familiar with Klopp's system, as the German was the one to sign him while he was still in charge at Borussia Dortmund.
However, the youngster had to leave the team to get more first-team action and has excelled for Borussia Monchengladbach since joining the squad, with Klopp now keen to lure him back to his command.
Moreover, the Reds could use Joel Matip to try and lower Monchengladbach's asking price for the 25-year-old, as the team is looking to sell the Cameroon international in the summer in order to pile up some cash to get Ginter, as per Calciomercato.
Considering how well Ginter has performed as of late for Monchengladbach and the fact that he's become a regular part of Joachim Low's new team, his value is likely to have increased significantly, so the Reds are likely to try and offer a Matip+cash deal in order to lure the centre-back to Anfield.
Should they strike on such deal, Matip is likely going to be headed out the door either way, as his constant mistakes and lack of consistency have been a major headache for Liverpool fans since the defender arrived from Schalke 04 a couple of seasons ago.
