Liverpool could be ready to surprise everybody with two shocking moves next summer, as the Reds hold a surprising interest in Manchester United's Marcus Rashford and Tottenham's Son Heung-min.

That’s according to a report discussing Liverpool’s summer transfer plans. However, they accept that neither player would be a realistic option for them this time around.

The defending Champions League winners didn’t need huge movements in the January transfer window. Instead, the Reds only splashed out on Japan international Takumi Minamino for £7.25m.

Reds fans don't need to be very excited about the summer, either, with journalist Melissa Reddy writing in The Independent that 'blockbuster' additions aren’t part of the board’s plans.

Talking about big-money moves, Reddy writes: "Do the league leaders have an interest in Kylian Mbappe, Jadon Sancho and Kai Havertz? Of course they do. It would be utterly ridiculous for them not to.

"[However] Unless Liverpool lose one of their pedigreed front three – a situation they are not expecting this summer with none of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah or Roberto Firmino showing any intent to exit – there isn’t room for a blockbuster attacking purchase.

"The club’s priority is to lock down the world’s best center-back [Virgil van Dijk] and goalkeeper [Alisson] for the long-term with both wanting extended contracts...Continuing to retain and reward an outstanding rearguard is not cheap."

She adds that instead, Liverpool will focus on developing their youngsters, and players like Neco Williams and Yasser Larouci may be asked to step up next season rather than recruiting more full-backs.

When talking about Rashford and Son, Reddy suggests that Liverpool's recruitment team are 'big admirers' of both stars, but they’re well aware that Manchester United or Tottenham won’t sell any of these, even less to a Premier League rival.
