Albeit the summer was pretty quiet for Liverpool, the English giants might end up losing a big figure before the closure of the European transfer window. One of their stars recently revealed that he could pursue a move away before September 2, when the European window closes.
According to The Sun, Liverpool star Xherdan Shaqiri has hinted he could be on his way out of the club this month. The Swiss player revealed to The Sun that he’s not happy with his bit-part role for the Reds. After making his way from Stoke City, the attacking midfielder made 13 league starts for Jurgen Klopp’s side last campaign.
“I’m disappointed that I am no longer getting to play in matches. No player is happy to sit on the bench,” he said.
“It is clear that I would like to have more playing time. I need to take a good look at the situation and find a solution.”
“I don’t know anything about offers from those clubs.”
Seeing the names Liverpool feature on the attack, with the frenetic trio of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah leading the way, it’s not a shock that the 27-year-old feels frustrated with his role in the team.
Shaqiri hasn’t seen any minute of action during Liverpool recent clashes against Norwich and Chelsea, respectively, which has led the former Bayern Munich player to look for alternatives.
Last month, Blick reported that the Merseysiders would be willing to part with the Swiss star for around €36 million (£32.8m).
Besides the fact that the Liverpool trio is healthy and ready to keep delivering this season, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain came back from his long-term injury and Divock Origi became a hero for the Reds last season, earning a new contract this summer, it looks like Shaqiri’s best option is to find a new club.
