Manchester City are reportedly ready to go to war for Juventus midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur, trying to beat Spanish giants Barcelona for his signature. Following a good start with the Bianconeri, Bentancur could be making his way out of Turin with two big sides interested in his services.
The Uruguayan international has made 77 appearances for the Bianconeri since joining them from Boca Juniors. So far he’s scored two goals and provided four assists. This season, the 22-year-old has featured in ten of Juventus’ 13 matches, providing two assists against Inter Milan and Genoa.
Bentancur was linked with the Blaugrana by Calciomercato and now, Gazzetta Dello Sport (via Sport) claim that Manchester City have also joined the race to sign the talented midfielder. The latter’s report also suggests that Barcelona are eyeing a summer move for the 22-year-old who could see the La Liga champions disburse €40 million.
He’s a very elegant player who can play in a variety of positions. A guy like this could be a great addition to any of Barca and City. However, it’s highly likely that he’ll see his playing time diminished if he opts to join a different side. Barca currently count with the likes of Sergio Busquets, Frenkie de Jong, Arthur, Ivan Rakitic and Arturo Vidal while Manchester City have Rodri and Fernandinho.
Yet, Bentancur could prove to be a fine replacement for Fernandinho as the Brazilian’s current contract expires next summer.
