Manchester City are reportedly ready for an entertaining January transfer window as they have drawn up a four-man defender shortlist for the upcoming transfer market. Pep Guardiola has stated over and over that the players he wants to sign will not be available in the January window and he will stick with the squad he has.
However, The Telegraph report that City's scouts have been looking for defenders and they have four candidates for the job. The Sky Blues could keep tabs on these players for the rest of the season and then make a run for them when the campaign is over. Yet, there is a possibility that they finish the job at the turn of the year.
The first of these potential new signings is Bournemouth's Nathan Ake, but they expect him to rejoin Chelsea. The Dutch defender has a buy-back clause in his contract that only the London club can trigger.
Besides Ake, we find that City has identified both Benfica's Ruben Dias and Villarreal's Pau Torres as potential targets. Both are only 22 but are considered two of the best young defenders around the globe at this moment.
The biggest name of the list, though, is Kalidou Koulibaly, with the Citizens monitoring his situation at Napoli. The Senegalese international is reportedly keen to leave Naples and has already been linked with both Manchester clubs.
Pep Guardiola’s defense has struggled this year, especially after Aymeric Laporte was ruled out with a knee injury. The Frenchman is expected to return at the end of January, but City needs a solution in the meantime.
