Manchester City haven’t been one of the busiest teams during the summer transfer window, but the Premier League champions are still looking to land some reinforcements this offseason. Not many players have been linked with them, but the ones they have on the radar are pieces that would take their level to the next stage.
At this moment, they might be getting closer to finalize their first deal of the offseason since reports have suggested the Citizens are about to sign 25-year-old right back Joao Cancelo from Serie A champions Juventus. Although they refused to pay the fee Juve was asking for the player, they are willing to improve their initial offer trying to replace outbound Danilo.
According to Goal, the Turin side are holding out for €60 million for the Portuguese defender but sources suggest that City are trying to lower down the valuation. Instead, a €50-million agreement might be on the works and a potential deal could be completed in the coming days. After Danilo failed to become a reliable starter in Pep Guardiola’s squad, he’s set to leave Manchester and Cancelo is seen as the perfect replacement for the Brazilian.
Alongside Juventus star, City have been keeping tabs on Crystal Palace’s youngster Aaron Wan-Bissaka, facing tough competition for the 21-year-old in city neighbors Manchester United. Cancelo, on the other side, has been followed by the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich, which makes this move a sweeter one if completed.
Besides the right-back position, City will look to strengthen the center of the defense and midfield, with Leicester City’s Harry Maguire and Ajax’s Matthijs de Ligt been rumored as favorites to claim the starting center-back position, while Atletico Madrid’s midfielder Rodri looks closer to a move to Etihad as the days go by.
