Manchester City are reportedly ready to join the race for Portuguese attacking midfielder Bruno Fernandes, one of the best players in his position right now. This comes after their city rivals Manchester United failed to land the midfielder.
The Red Devils have been heavily linked with Fernandes for some time, with Sky Sports reporting that every part involved in a potential transaction was willing to do business as soon as this January.
However, that could be different now, as Correio da Manha claim City are also interested in the Portugal international and could place an offer of £85million to bring him to the Etihad Stadium.
David Silva is set to depart this summer when his contract with the club is finished, so it makes sense that the Citizens could eye someone like Fernandes as an ideal long-term replacement for the Spaniard.
Bruno has shown all his quality with Sporting as a real creative talent and a prolific scorer from midfield. It’s not a surprise that he looks ready to make the step up to a bigger club.
One could say between these two, City would be a more attractive destination for any player right now, but a move to Old Trafford doesn’t sound so bad for Fernandes, as that means he could play more regularly.
Even after Silva is out, the competition for a spot in City's midfield will remain hard. Instead, at Old Trafford, he’ll be very appreciated after a difficult season in which Paul Pogba has been injured and missed most of the campaign, while others in that area of the pitch have struggled.
