Erling Haaland has been one of the biggest surprises in European football in recent times, so it’s not a shock if we see him getting a lot of attention from some of the most important clubs in the continent.
Haaland has been marvelous for Red Bull Salzburg, scoring 18 goals in just 11 matches while dishing five assists so far this season. If he keeps this level, it would come as no surprise if he opted to move on to play at a higher level sooner rather than later.
That said, The Sun now report that Manchester City could be the latest side to enter the transfer scrap to land Haaland’s signature, with Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United all said to be interested in luring him away next year. However, any team wanting to put their hands on the 19-year-old striker will have to be prepared to offer big money to make this deal happen.
Besides City, we already saw the kind of clubs that are chasing Haaland and his talents, so this won’t come easy. The report goes on to suggest that RB Salzburg will look for around £50 million to give the ‘go-ahead’ for an exit for their prized asset.
Right now Pep Guardiola counts with Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus as part of his squad and it would be interesting to see why he needs another striker as he could run the risk of leaving certain individuals unhappy if they aren’t much playing time.
On the other hand, Manchester United have scored only nine goals in eight Premier League games so far this season. Following the departure of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez this past summer, a swoop for Haaland would be the best option for them.
We’ll have to wait until next summer to know how this situation ends, as Salzburg aren’t willing to do business for Haaland in January. There are plenty of good teams interested in his services, therefore, this may well be one of the biggest sagas of the summer of 2020.
