Manchester City are ready to fight off Real Madrid interest in Raheem Sterling, as the Spanish giants have been linked with the English winger in recent times. The Citizens can’t afford to lose such a big name as Sterling, which is why they’re preparing to do whatever it takes to tie him down at the Etihad Stadium.

According to the Daily Express, City might try giving Sterling a deal that would make him the highest-paid player in the Premier League. They note the player could cost £200 million to Real Madrid, which is not a surprise given the quality he’d add to their side.

It’s not a secret Sterling has been wonderful for the Sky Blues ever since he landed from Liverpool, and now Madrid look ready to steal this guy trying to finally replace Cristiano Ronaldo. It’s unclear how this situation will develop, but one imagines Real might have a shot here, with Sterling claiming he would leave City in the future to try his luck in a different country.

City should have the resources to give Sterling any contract he wants, but the 24-year-old could be interested in bigger challenges than the ones he had in England right now. Last season his side won the domestic treble of the Premier League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup.

If he goes to Madrid, and they actually improve their level, Sterling will have more chances to win in Europe. City have been trying to win the Champions League for several years now and not even the arrival of Pep Guardiola has changed anything for them. Perhaps this guy will need to find a new team in the future and Madrid look ready to lure him away from the Etihad.
