Transfer Rumors: Manchester United On The Verge To Sign Paul Pogba Replacement

While the Paul Pogba saga continues without any imminent end, Manchester United have gotten to work to improve their ranks and get ready in case the Frenchman finally leaves Old Trafford this summer.

With Real Madrid’s boss Zinedine Zidane eager to land the World Cup winner this offseason, the Red Devils are on the verge to sign Pogba’s possible replacement in one of the best midfielders in the Serie A for the last couple of seasons. United are reportedly close to completing the signing of Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic according to the latest reports from Italy.

Any deal for Pogba will depend on Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez leaving Los Blancos to raise funds to afford Pogba’s transfer. Even though his club remains reluctant to let the midfielder go, at least to Real Madrid, the Spanish giants could pay more than €150 million (£135 million) to get their desired asset once and for all.

If that eventually comes to fruition, the English outfit will obviously need to replace Pogba, and Milinkovic-Savic now appears as a strong candidate to take the job. The Rome-based newspaper La Repubblica now claim that Manchester are on their way to reach an agreement for the Serbian midfielder, who has been drawing attention from other big clubs like Juventus and Barcelona.

The report notes that United’s attempt to sign the Serbian international is a 'well-established operation' and that a deal with Lazio of around €75 million (£67 million) plus add-ons is 'practically' agreed.

Lazio's asking price was initially reported to be €90 million (£81 million), although Sport Witness claim that agreeing to a lower initial fee could be seen as acceptable for the Italians if the add-ons are relatively easy to activate.

Pogba’s saga is one of the biggest unsolved stories remaining this offseason. Even though everything points out United does not plan on letting the Frenchman go, they might be getting ready to the life without Pogba, according to Italian media.
