Last May Barcelona were shockingly defeated by Liverpool, in one of the worst games in the history of the club, and Lionel Messi’s career. Barcelona threw a 3-0 aggregate lead in the Champions League semi-final second leg, as they succumbed 4-0 to Jurgen Klopp’s men at Anfield Road.

This result led to calls for coach Ernesto Valverde to be dismissed, and if it wasn’t for the intervention of Messi and other figures, the Spaniard boss would have probably been jobless right now.

A couple of months after that dramatic game, we learn by Antoine Bourlon, via the Ballon d’Or-awarding France Football, confessions that Messi apparently made to former teammate Neymar in the aftermath of the results, claiming things that will shock Catalonia, Argentina and the rest of the soccer world.

“Only together can we win the Champions League, I want you to come back. In two years I will leave and you will take over,” Messi said.

Contacting him for comment, Bourlon told that details of this conversation were revealed ‘by sources in Paris and Barcelona’.

There were a lot of rumors suggesting Messi was eager to see Neymar playing with Barcelona again during the summer, with some people even claiming he was against the arrival of Antoine Griezmann at the Camp Nou. Besides, if Gerard Pique is to be believed, several Barcelona stars were even willing to take a pay cut to facilitate the move.

But, there is something that has set the alarms for Barcelona, and that’s Messi’s admitting an intention to leave the Blaugrana in two years, which would mean he’d leave once his current contract expires in mid-2021.

Still, this could have been Messi speaking in the heat and hurt of the moment, but in football, you never know what can happen.
