Napoli recently completed one of the best signings of the summer in Mexican forward Hirving Lozano, who is a great addition for the Italian side. Yet, that doesn’t seem to be the end for Carlo Ancelotti and company, who are ready to sign two more stars before the transfer window shuts down next Monday.
Reports from Italy claim that the Parthenoppeans are weighing their options to buy Mauro Icardi from Internazionale and Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez. These two assets have been on the radar of the team for a big part of the summer, and now they might be finally making their way to the San Paolo Stadium.
According to Football Italia, the Italian giants are reportedly waiting on the outcome of Mauro Icardi's meeting with his club Inter Milan, before making a final decision on whether to make a late move for the player. Multiple outlets have reported that Inter are trying to land Fernando Llorente, as the former Tottenham man searches for a new club ahead of the coming season.
Besides Llorente, they have been linked with Alexis Sanchez, but the Chilean is a different type of player.
Icardi is reportedly trying to earn a spot in Antonio Conte’s team, with his wife and agent Wanda Nara claiming that he continued to reject transfer offers from Napoli because he still believes he can have a good career with Inter.
On the other hand, James Rodriguez has been tracked by Napoli this summer, but a deal never materialized between the Italians and Real Madrid.
According to Calciomercato, via the paper edition of Naples-based Corriere del Mezzogiorno, it has been suggested that the door is still open for Rodriguez to leave despite his recent injury blow. To make a move for James, Napoli will have to offload Simone Verdi, which would be easy for them, as several teams in Italy have shown their interest in the player.
Torino, Fiorentina or Sampdoria are willing to meet his €20 million price tag, as per Calciomercato.
We still have to wait and see if Napoli are going to make a move for any of these two guys. Juve and Inter had a great start to the season, and Ancelotti and his team don’t want to be left behind. They need to add more firepower to compete for the title.
