Manchester City are reportedly targeting new additions to bolster an already-powerful squad. The Citizens have dominated in England over the past couple of seasons, but this one Liverpool have taken over in the Premier League, drifting away from the Citizens.
Now rumors suggest they have two targets in mind to bolster two key areas of their squad. Vincent Kompany, the club’s captain and leader, left this summer and City couldn’t find a proper replacement for the Belgian, who left a huge void to fill.
Moreover, David Silva is also expected to leave this summer and it looks like the English giants don’t have a player that will take over from Silva at the Etihad, leaving Man City facing the prospect of losing two huge figures in their recent success over a year.
City’s defense is full of good players, but that doesn’t seem to be enough for Guardiola, and, according to Calciomercato, Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly is being targeted as their priority, given how good he’s played for the Italian side and his influence in the dressing room. Definitely, a guy that would improve the club’s level as soon as he arrives.
Besides, Calciomercato also add that Kai Havertz has emerged as a possible replacement for Silva, with the 20-year-old continuing to impress for Bayer Leverkusen this season. Havertz has scored 31 goals and dished 23 assists for the German team, drawing attention from some of the best clubs in Europe.
Both Koulibaly and Havertz will have plenty of suitors next summer; therefore, Guardiola and company will need to offload big money to make these moves happen. They offer two crucial solutions to long-term issues that he’s facing at the Etihad.
